MY TURN!

Everyone is fine, Suwen. I'm holding up pretty well. Okay, not really, but it could be so much worse.

Hahaha. I'm into my 4th week of Paeds elective at KKH in Singapore now. It's been pretty interesting to say the least. I mean, drama aside, I've never felt so humbled and stupid in my entire life. I always knew that foreign grads were looked down upon, but experiencing it firsthand kind of drives the message home: that the local meds think we foreigners are dumb as fuck.

The worst part is, that they kind of have a reason to think that! Omg, they know soooo much. They are so pedantic in their knowledge and learning it's crazy. Like, if we're talking about Tuberous Sclerosis, you're expected to know which chromosomes are altered, and which genes are affected (TSC 1 and TSC 2 on Chromosomes 9 and 16 btw). ISN'T THAT CRAZY.

I'm like half impressed, half exasperated. I mean, there's no way in hell I can catch up to that!

*deflates*

I feel kind of hopeless, and yet I refuse to give up! Because, because, well because!

I WANT TO LEARN SOMETHING AND I WANT TO MAKE A GOOD IMPRESSION ON MY FELLOW SINGAPOREANS. What a crock of bullshit. I'm doing it all for a very selfish, very stupid reason.

One which I'll never tell. It's THAT stupid.

=.=

I can't wait for my elective to be over. But then again I wish it won't. I don't know. I'm feeling very confused right now.

OH YEAH. TOMORROW IS FREE CONE DAY @ B&J's! I'm going during lunch with 2 girls I met here (just today lol!) and again in the evening with another girl I met (but 2 weeks ago). I am going to get soooo fat.

Oh wait, I already am! D:

hola from princess of happylanndd!!

haha hello my lovelies!
i think i must have caught some of ben's brain waves because it's my first time viewing this blog since.... A LONG LONG WHILE AGO!
and to find that ben has semangatedly blogged TWICE somemore, okay lah. hahahah i shall give the credit to you :)
yeah i think that's a good idea, still keeping in touch with this blog.
it JUST hit me that we're no longer group F!
T_T
how sad is that!
nvm. we'll be the unofficial group Fs! once group f-ers always group f-ers
haha

i am currently on my holiday posting which just means that i'm rotting at home and enjoying my relaxation time!
i finished my elective posting about 2 weeks ago and it was really enjoyable for me!
i mostly tagged around with the registrars and attended clinics and ward rounds with consultants.
i had free lunch EVERY wednesday without fail and many many other free lunches in between! :D:D happily eating my life away. so i guess its' a good thing that sandwiches appear to be the constant choice for the lunch caterers and supplemented with other international dishes. like we had lebanese, japanese, vietnamnese and goodness knows what else. i happily makan saja as we know. AHAH. ooo and desserts! YUM!

overall, i think i learnt quite a bit from the posting. oh i did endo &diabetes at the alfred btw. the system in the aussie hospitals are so much more cekap and efficient than what we have back in good ol' HSA! the ppl are more friendly and patient as well!!
there isn't quite much of a segregation between the doctors and nurses and everyone seems happy to be treated as equally as each other! be it the occupational therapists, the podiatrist, dietician, nurse and doctors! even the consultants are very down to earth and i've never witnessed any flaunting of power!
do u know, that in the clinics, the consultants THEMSELVES go out to the waiting room and call EACH and every patient in? and they don't have nurses in the clinic with them to help! i guess it helps that everything is technology-operated where followups and stuff can be selected online.

other than that, my elective was a rather laidback one and i felt like it was more of an invigorating experience than one that burns u and works u to death. HAHA :D

how's everyoneeeeee

And I loved every moment of it…

Was working like an intern for 6 weeks,
writing reports, admitting patients, sending labs
and learning a whole lot about medicine and nephro... :)
nephro oh nephro remember how i said i hated you..
Yet in these past 6 weeks i have grown to love you!

i think i may go down the nephrology line after this :)
